Seascape Exhibition

The Craft Council of Ireland again  co-ordinated  an  exhibition of textiles at this years Knitting and Stitching Show, which ran Thursday 10th Nov. to Sunday 13th Nov. 2011, at the RDS, Dublin. The title was 'Seascapes'. It was a beautifully varied exhibition. The piece of work I was happy to exhibit was called 'Tidal Play'. It was inspired by the much loved habit of picking up stones and shells, laying them out in names or patterns on the beach, but only to have them reclaimed by the sea once the tide comes in and the water starts to play with them. If you are interested in viewing more images of the varies pieces in the exhibition try out the link below.

Teasels

Found these in my garden and thought they were beautiful. I was told that teasels were used long ago for teasing or combing wool. What a coincidence!

In preparation to the 21st Icons Exhibition in the Crafts Gallery here in Kilkenny you see my piece "Shades of Green" being photographed by Trevor Harte and modelled by Blathnaid.

Yesterday was the opening. It is very well curated exhibition of a wide variety of works. The curator was Anne Mulrooney of the CCoi. It began " by asking makers to revisit the past in the form of the torc, an instantly recognisable icon of Celtic identity. The bronze and gold neckwear of the Celts was of immense importance as a symbol of status. If we were to design a neckpiece now that conveyed something about us to the world , what would they say? And would they look like?..."

Felt Vessel Workshop

Last Saturday we came together to have a felt vessel workshop in the 5-6 house here in Kilkenny. It was a very enjoyable workshop, very relaxed and full of chat. Not everybody had done felting before, but I must say it was easy and a pleasure to teach and everybody was very happy with their own unique felt vessel. Here are some photos and well done to everybody
